Helping you to learn (with meditation mp3)

Do you find it hard to stick to things? Do you lose motivation after you have started a task?

Through childhood and adolescence we often acquire schemas (units of information) about what we can and can’t do. These often out of date and inaccurate schemas can play havoc on our self-esteem and self-perception.  Impacting our actions such as; signing up to courses, progressing in careers and overlooking opportunities. These inaccurate preconceptions (e.g. I am no good at exams/technology/public speaking) get us in the way of our own self development, they don’t go away and can de-motivate us and cause us to be disengaged when participating in corporate training or when considering adult learning.

These personal barriers can manifest themselves in many ways such as:

  • Motivational barriers

  • Emotional barrier

Motivational barriers are the ones that get in the way when the learning has already started e.g. stop turning up to the sessions or submitting work.  To overcome this try to consider why you are taking part in the training, try to focus on the bigger picture and buy into it.  Then ensure that you carve out time in your working week to make time for the course so it’s not just another thing that you need to do. If boredom creeps in and demotivates you, then try and buddy up with a colleague or peer to get you more motivated and hold you to account.

Emotional barriers are the ones that make us feel uncomfortable and doubt ourselves.  Fear of failure is often cited as a reason why people stop trying, impacting new recruits, perfectionists and overachievers alike. Everyone at times feels apprehensive to practice new skills and knowledge. Trying to tap into a growth mindset can help, realizing that there is no failure, only feedback. I have attached an audio download that you can listen to, to try and focus your unconscious drive and overcome some of these personal barriers.

Victoria has written and recorded a hypnosis meditation for you to boost your capacity for learning and reduce motivational and emotional barriers.

If you believe this is an area that is getting in the way of your growth and development then please get in touch. We can help you explore why this is happening and help shift some of the emotional and motivational barriers impacting your personal and professional development.
