How to be more confident at work
We often think of confidence on an identity level: you’re either a confident person or you’re not. Confidence is a skill, it’s something we can learn and develop. Here are 3 easy steps that you can start doing now.
Keep a success log
Write a list of all the good feedback and compliments that you’ve received at work and review it often. As humans we have a negativity bias which makes our brains focus on the negative (as a evolutionary survival strategy). Train your brain to notice the positive.
Feedback is useful
Constructive criticism is useful information that we can learn from and grow. If we take feedback as personal we miss the opportunity to learn and grow.
Recognise others
If you notice someone else doing well or you appreciate their work pay them a compliment. This kind of positive communication develops confidence. It’s not just a matter of receiving praise, it’s also a matter of giving it. How you contribute to group dynamics is an important factor in how you value your worth.
