Breathing technique to relax and calm
Breathing for when you’re stressed or feeling overwhelmed.
Inhale for up to the count of 7.
Exhale for up to the count of 11.
Do this for a few minutes and build up to 5 minutes if possible. Breathing in this way activates our parasympathetic system which is the opposite of the stress response. It might be helpful to imagine a ribbon or golden thread that curls in as you breathe in and stretches and unfurls as you breathe out.
The numbers aren’t important, so what’s comfortable for you.
If you’re not used to breathing in this way you may experience some dizziness. If you do, please go back to your normal breathing pattern and have a drink of water.
