Relax …in 60 seconds

Listen as I talk you through another quick and easy technique to calm your nervous system.

  • Unfocused gaze - so your sight is blurry, like a day dream like state.

  • Rub your finger and thumb together repeatedly. Notice how it feels.

  • Say to yourself or out loud - I’m ok, I’m safe (or something soothing like that).

I’ve always found that this works very well for clients on various levels. The connection with Polyvagal Theory comes with the sending of messages visually, kinaesthetically and verbally. By mimicking a state of safety and regulation (unfocused vision, slower breathing, softening of the muscles) you are sending the message through the vagus nerve that you are safe in this moment. This, in turn, induces a calmer, more relaxed state.
